Help with Gas Laws (Will Choose Best Answer)?
The flame produced by the burner of a gas (propane) grill is a pale blue color when enough air mixes with the propane (C3H8) to burn it completely. For every gram of propane that flows through the burner, what volume of air is needed to burn it completely? Assume that the temperature of the burner is 210.0 degress C, the pressure is 1.05 atm, and the mole fraction of O2 in the air is 0.21.
C3H8 +5 O2 = 3 CO2 + 4 H2O
So assuming oxygen is limiting and we need to figure out how much we need in volume.
PV=nRt
(1.05)(x)=(.21)(.08206)(210+273.15)
x=7.93L
(I added 273.15 to celcius in order to put degrees in kelvin.)
(r=gas constant)
(p=pressure)
(n=# of moles)
(t=tempurature in K)
(This may not be correct, this is a rough idea given this information because i don’t know it 1.05 is total pressure or partial pressure of oxygen) But the idea is the same.
